UK Airports Introduce Contactless eGates for Faster Border Control
New contactless technology is being introduced at eGates across UK airports, aiming to provide speedier and smoother journeys for passengers. This development, announced by GOV.UK Immigration, is intended to modernise border control processes.
The eGates, which allow eligible travellers to self-process through passport control, are a common feature at many UK airports and international rail hubs. This upgrade builds on existing automated systems, which have been in place for several years, to further reduce waiting times and improve the overall travel experience.
The contactless system will allow eligible passengers to pass through border control more quickly by using biometric data. This initiative is part of a broader government effort to enhance the efficiency of UK border operations, processing a greater volume of travellers with improved technology.
For Nigerian and other African immigrants travelling to the UK, this upgrade could result in reduced queuing times upon arrival, particularly for those eligible to use eGates. Faster processing could alleviate some of the common frustrations associated with long waits at border control after international flights.
