Job Description
As a HMPPS Disparities Analyst within the Workforce and Equalities Statistics Team, you will play a crucial role in improving the recording, analysis, and reporting of equalities data. Your work will directly support the HMPPS Disparities Unit and the wider Performance, Standards, and Behaviours Group.
You will be responsible for producing clear, quality-assured analysis that helps senior leaders, operational colleagues, and policy teams understand disparities within the justice system. This includes identifying potential drivers of these disparities and assessing where further action may be required to promote fairness and equality.
This varied role offers the opportunity to take ownership of defined analytical projects, develop technical and stakeholder-management skills, and contribute innovative ideas for new work, all while collaborating closely with the G7 HMPPS Disparities Analysis Lead and the wider analytical team.
Requirements
- A numerate degree or a degree with an analytical, statistical, or research element (2:2 or above, or a higher degree like MSc, PhD), or significant demonstrable experience in data use and analytical skills.
- Strong passion, values, and ability to contribute to solving complex problems within the justice system.
- Ability to produce clear, quality-assured analysis and effectively communicate findings to various stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using data and analytical skills to understand disparities and identify their potential drivers.
- Open to foreign applicants who require UK visa sponsorship.
- Candidates must demonstrate relevant experience and skills as specified.
- While current Civil Service employment is noted, this specific role advertises visa sponsorship, indicating openness to external applicants.
Benefits
- Flexible working arrangements, including part-time, job-share, compressed hours, and remote work options.
- Extensive career development and promotion opportunities across a wide range of analytical roles.
- Generous individual learning and development budget to support continuous professional growth.
- Opportunities to work with cutting-edge tools and techniques in an ambitious transformation programme.
- A vibrant, supportive, and multidisciplinary team culture focused on professional development.
- Regular opportunities to visit frontline service providers (courts, prisons, probation) to see the real-world impact of your analysis.
How to Prepare
For Nigerian and African immigrants targeting this Civil Service role, preparation should be meticulous. Ensure your CV is polished, formatted to UK standards, and highlights analytical experience from your home country, clearly demonstrating how it aligns with the job description. Tailor your LinkedIn profile to reflect UK employer expectations, showcasing your skills in data analysis and research.
When crafting your cover letter, focus on how your international experience brings a unique perspective to addressing disparities, a key aspect of this role. Be prepared to discuss your visa sponsorship needs clearly and confidently during interviews, outlining your eligibility and commitment to contributing to the UK justice system.
- Ensure your CV and cover letter explicitly detail your analytical, statistical, or research experience, linking it to the Ministry of Justice's mission.
- Prepare for a technical analytical interview, as a specialist allowance is offered based on this assessment.
- Research the Ministry of Justice's work on disparities and equality to demonstrate your understanding and passion during the interview.
- Familiarize yourself with UK Civil Service values and how your professional ethos aligns with them.
- Have your educational certificates (numerate degree or equivalent) ready for verification, as a 2:2 or above is a minimum requirement.
Visa Sponsorship & Foreigner Eligibility
Visa / Skilled Worker (Tier 2) sponsorship is AVAILABLE for this role, making it open to foreign / overseas applicants who need a UK work visa. Non-UK residents are explicitly encouraged to apply. If your visa status is borderline or complex, it is always best to declare your situation clearly in your application and be prepared to discuss it during the interview process.
